Are You Sick? Here’s How to Care for Your Teeth and Gums

Posted .

If you’re sick with the cold or flu, then you’re most likely curled in your blankets and cuddling your tissue box. You probably don’t think about your smile, right? Well, if you’re not careful, your smile can also be affected by your sickness. So, our dentist, Dr. Bryce Bray, encourages you to care for your teeth and gums while you’re sick by doing the following things:

-Brush your teeth well and floss at least once a day, even if you’re too tired to do so. This is important because some cold and flu medicine can promote cavities. Remember: Brush twice a day for two minutes each time.

-Drink a lot of liquid. This can help you stay hydrated and can also wash bacteria away from your teeth and gums.

-Replace your toothbrush when you are recovered from your sickness. If you forget to replace your toothbrush, it could still be infected. When you use it, there is a chance you could get sick again.

-Gargle saltwater or rinse with antibacterial mouthwash while you’re sick. This can keep bacteria at bay.
