Dental Fundamentals for Bright Smiles

In our busy lives, it’s easy to let the little things slide a little bit. Sometimes it’s good to check in with ourselves and make sure those little things are still in order. Here are some things to consider as you analyze your dental habits and make sure they are still up to snuff.


Brush: Brush your teeth two times a day, for 2 minutes each time. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle pressure, using tooth-wide strokes to clean the plaque and debris from the surfaces of your teeth. Remember: 2×2! This is a great time to listen to music or reflect on the day.


Floss: Floss once a day. It should take 2-3 minutes each time. Remember to floss all the way around each tooth, including the back molars! If you are just starting your flossing habit, some discomfort is normal–but if it lasts for more than 2 weeks, talk to Dr. Bryce Bray.


Eat Well:  Your body depends on the fuel you give it– and this includes your mouth! Avoid sticky and starchy foods, and fill up on calcium-filled goodness, like cheese. Lactose intolerant? Cheeses aged over 1 year no longer have lactose. Can’t have dairy for other reasons? Choose other calcium-filled foods, such as beans, dark leafy greens, or calcium-fortified orange juice.
