There is seemingly no end to advantages of laser use in modern dentistry. The intense beam of light can cut like a sharp knife, sterilize, and cauterize the wound at the same time. Lasers can remove oral tissue or reshape it. Lasers are even used to whiten teeth.

There are different laser instruments used for different dental operations. The same laser tool that is used for surgery is not the appropriate kind to use for teeth whitening. Below are some other procedures where dentists use lasers:

-Revealing wisdom teeth that only come out part of the way.

-Burning tooth decay away to prepare a tooth for fillings.

-Expunging bacteria from teeth and gums with periodontitis.

There is no more danger or safety issues, in regard to the use of lasers for dentistry, than there would be with traditional dental tools. A properly trained dentist can use laser instruments in exactly the same way, and for the same procedures, that he does his previous dental instruments. Laser dentistry is completely safe. When properly trained, a dentist will use a laser the same way he would other dental instruments.

There are multiple benefits that laser dentistry has over the old traditional methods. Patients do not always need to be put under with anesthesia for some procedures due to the fact that many operations will be painless. And a laser incision sterilizes and cauterizes as it cuts. Killing 3 birds with one stone! Bleeding is also greatly reduced which allows the dentist to be more precise and accurate.

Of course, laser instruments are not always the right choice for all dental operations. So, confer with your dentist to find out whether lasers are the best option.
